3 Things Nobody Told You About Mastercard Securecode Setup
For merchants who are setting up a new credit card processing terminal at their company's store, understanding how to complete a Mastercard securecode setup is essential. As with any other credit card system, the process of authorization for credit cards transactions works through the use of a secured component which is embedded into a site server. The most basic way to set up a Mastercard system involves an account being established with a merchant account provider such as American Express MasterCard or Visa.
Merchants can request an online merchant account from AMEX or VISA directly. In doing so, they will be issued an International Credit Card with a unique UPC number. When processing credit cards online, it is important that merchants have a valid one in order to avoid unauthorized transactions. If the merchant account is provided by AMEX or Visa, there will be a link called “MasterCard Setup” on the front page of the customer's website which enables them to enter their financial information and choose a unique credit card number.
Once the online merchants have established an account, they can send an application to the issuing bank, which will be reviewed and processed accordingly. There are two parties involved when it comes to this transaction; namely, the online merchant and the issuing bank. The role of the online merchants is to process credit cards and the role of the issuer's bank is to maintain and track all financial activity for both parties. To facilitate this setup, AMEX has standardized an application which is used by all online merchants, regardless of whether they accept AMEX or Visa for payment.
The AMEX application contains a standard format which is used universally by all online merchants and which enables them to process credit cards. The application consists of three major sections; one for merchant details, one for online shoppers and one for sales management. Merchants can do whatever they want with this application as long as it conforms to the set guidelines. Online shoppers need to enter their credit cards and personal information in a secure, password protected area, which the issuer's bank securely monitors.
The AMEX Schlafstation is a PC based terminal which allows for the secure transmission of cardholder data, including personal identification number (PIN), name of cardholder, expiration date, and account status. It has two parallel terminals for credit cards processing. One terminal is designed for use with the AMEX Secure Codebook, which allows for secure, confidential and electronic transfer of cardholder information between the vendor and the buyer. The PC terminal is specifically designed for use with the Schlafstation by the authorized person, who is granted access to the secured area. The authorized person may also use the PC terminal for other authorized tasks related to the credit card business.
If a buyer uses the PC terminal for authorization purposes, the transaction is encrypted and is safe from any third parties. There is a PIN entry field on the front of the PC terminal. To approve a purchase, the customer chooses a MasterCard Secure Code from a pad provided on the back of the PC. This pad also contains secret information such as the name, address and birth date of the cardholder. After this, the card holder is required to enter the pin number on the PC to complete the process.
After a customer buys something using the MasterCard secure Credit card, the process is completed. The retailer, which is either an individual or a company, verifies the validity and authenticity of the cardholder using the PC. If everything goes well, the retailer will honor the transaction and issue the purchase. If for some reason, security prevents the transaction, the matter will be escalated to a payment dispute and will be reviewed by a Payment Dispute Resolution Company or a disputes panel.
The PC is used as a part of the whole MasterCard setup process for enhanced protection and security. A variety of security measures are in place to avoid unauthorized access to information and data and to minimize card fraud and identity theft. PC security setup not only provides enhanced protection to merchants and individuals but it also makes the entire transactions process faster and smoother.
